Frequently Asked Questions

1. What is the function of a Seniors Consultant?

A Seniors Consultant assists seniors and their families to effectively and compassionately transition through the many phases of aging.

2. What services do you provide?

We can provide any or all of the following:

• All aspects of finding the best residential options
• Future planning for the senior in case of crisis
• Serve as long distance care coordinator for out of town families
• 24-Hour Emergency contact on temporary or long-term basis
• Accompany senior to medical appointments to maintain records and reports
• Proactively identify problems and recommend solutions
• Education and information on community services

3. My loved one will not talk to me about his/her needs. Can you help?

My training and experience in the psychological aspects of life transition enables me to be able to relate to the senior, often when family members have difficulty. Seniors will usually open up to me more fully than they do with their adult children. This is quite common.

4. I am not sure if my mom should move from her home. How do I know?

I welcome the chance to talk with you about your observations and together we can decide if it is, in fact, time for a move. We can discuss the options and put together a transition plan, if needed, to make the transition as smooth as possible. I will accompany you on tours of the facilities and will help you make informed decisions.

5. I live out of town. Once we find the right residential facility, how do I keep track of my loved one’s progress?

We can establish a regular routine in which I will monitor and report to you the condition of your loved one. I will accompany him/her to medical appointments and keep detailed records of everything related to his/her care. I can help coordinate the different services needed and serve as the physical presence when you cannot be there.

6. Do you work for the residential facilities?

No. I am an independent consultant and my sole goal is to help you make informed decisions and then implement them in the best interests of your loved one and your family.

7. Do you administer medications?

No. I will maintain the medical records for the family and help coordinate any medical or physical care that is needed, but I do not personally administer therapies or medications.

8. I don’t know what I don’t know!

Most families I work with have never faced this transition of life with a loved one. As such, it is expected that you will not know what to ask or where to begin. The terminology is ever-changing and there is a barrage of options to choose from. This is why Seniors Consulting is a valuable resource for you.
